On Thursday, 28 May Year 11 and 12 students took part in the annual ANZAC day commemoration to remember those who have served, past and present.

It was a moving and professional service with this year’s focus being on Vietnam Veterans. 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of Australia’s exit from the Vietnam conflict.

This year, the ANZAC service was held differently to normal. With COVID-19 still looming, it was decided to hold the event digitally, meaning the ANZAC service was Livestreamed to every mentor class. This opened up the opportunity for Year 12 students to participate in the ANZAC service, a privilege reserved only for Year 11s in the past. The Livestreamed format was a first for the College, and it was well received by Staff and Students alike.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and technical limitations, we were again unable to host our special guests from the Cambrai Retirement Village and Merriwa RAAFA Estate. Their presence was deeply missed.

The College would like to acknowledge all staff and students involved in the organisation and running of the event. Special mention must be made to Mr James McNeill for organising the event, Ms Emily Gorst, Ms Shyla Wyatt and their Year 11 Student Councillors for their touching speeches, Mr Jake Tomlinson for setting up the event and making the Livestream possible, Mr Bradshaw and the Year 12 Creative Industries class for filming the event and Ceejay Abrahams for singing the National Anthem.
