VET Information

Students can commence training qualifications in Years 11 and 12 while completing the WACE through the following VET programs:

• VET Fee for Service Courses
• Fee free Certificate Courses at TAFE and private Registered Training Providers (RTOs)

These courses are governed by the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF)and count as a course/unit equivalent towards WACE.

Successful completion of these courses is an advantage for students who are aiming to apply for further training pathways, such as TAFE or Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), and may be an advantage for students applying for alternative entry pathways to university.

It is important that students and parents understand that if a student chooses to participate in a VET program, the student may miss classes at Mindarie Senior College. It is a condition of participation that the student keeps up with all aspects of their program of study.

Students interested in a VET program are asked to advise the College during the enrolment interview process.

2027 EXTERNAL VOCATIONAL EDUCATON AND TRAINING COURSES
A range of courses are now open for application, and you will find course information and the application process via the links below.

Please read the application guide carefully when applying for courses at North or South Metro TAFE, as there are a number of documents that you need to have ready to upload at the time of completing the online application.

Completing the online application process in one sitting makes for a smoother application process.

NORTH METRO TAFE and SOUTH METRO TAFE
These courses do not attract a course fee; however, a number of the courses do have an incidental fee for materials and consumables.

Most courses are for one day per week over two years. This is a big commitment, and a student needs to have a genuine interest in the course that they apply for.

If a student applies and is offered a place in a course, the student will then withdraw from one of the 6 MSC courses that they have selected, so that this VET course becomes part of their College program.

When applying please take into account the location of the campus at which the course is offered.

These courses are offered to all schools in the Perth metro area and have limited places, hence competition is high to gain an offer of placement.

TAFE will predominately select students based on their Year 10 Semester 1 report and the student statement that is completed during the online application process.

TAFE application deadlines:
• South Metro TAFE: Friday, 21 August 2026
• North Metro TAFE: Monday, 31 August 2026

No applications will be processed until after the closing date. Outcomes of the applications will not be known until mid to late October 2026.

SKILL HIRE
• Pre-apprenticeships in Plumbing, Carpentry plus Block/Bricklaying and Painting
• 1 year course / no fees

All expressions of interest for these courses are made via the Construction Training Fund website. Click on ‘Expression of interest – 2027 – Fully Funded Pre-Apprenticeships’.

COLLEGE OF ELECTRICAL TRAINING (CET)
• UEE22025 Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start).
• 1 day per week over 2 years, no fee.

Applications open on Monday, 3 August and close on Friday, 4 September, with testing dates occurring between Monday, 10 August 10 and Friday, 18 September.

AMA COLLEGE
• 52890WA Certificate II in Community Health and Wellbeing – click on the link to register your interest and scroll to the bottom to complete the ‘ENQUIRE NOW’ online form.
• 1 year course / fees (TBC)

APPLIED VOCATIONAL TRAINING
• AMA20121 Certificate II in Animal Care
• ACM20121 Certificate II in Animal Care VETDSS for High Schools – click on ‘2027 Face-to Face – Apply Now’ and select to ‘Study at Landsdale Farm’

FEE FOR SERVICE COURSES
The full cost of these courses is to be met by the parent, with a 50% confirmation charge to be paid to the College prior to enrolment in the course. The balance of the course fee is to be paid prior to the course commencement date. Alternatively, a payment plan may be requested. Parents do not pay the Training Provider directly. Mindarie Senior College will invoice the parent, and payment is made to the College. The College then forwards payment to the Training Provider.

FREMANTLE EDUCATION CENTRE (FEC)
• 1 year courses / fee paying
• Current Year 10 students may apply for Certificate III qualifications.
• View course offerings at the VET in Schools Programs | FEC website.

Students may only apply for the courses that are listed on the application form. To apply, complete the FEC application form and email to Tracey Loughnan at: tracey.loughnan@education.wa.edu.au for endorsement. Applications will be forwarded to FEC on the student’s behalf.

HEALTH SCIENCE HUB
• 1 year courses / fee paying
• This Training Provider offers a wide range of courses, with the Certificate III qualifications being suitable for current Year 10 students.

• Choose your course
• Scroll to the middle of the course page to access the application via the ‘2027 classroom’ heading.

Please note: Before commencing the online application, please contact Tracey Loughnan on 6207 5550 to discuss the course the student is interested in. As part of the online application process, you will be required to upload the student’s most recent school report and proof of OLNA achievement.
