Course Outline

Semester 1 – Unit 3 – Popular Culture

Students will focus on:

• practical and theoretical dance lessons
• safe dance practice, physical skills and coordination
• technique for different styles of dance
• performance qualities
• functions of dance in society
• dance language
• genre-specific technique including the following possible styles: Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary Tap, Broadway, Cultural and Lyrical dance.

Semester 2 – Unit 4 – Australian Dance

Students will focus on:

• a range of functions of dance in Australia
• genre-specific technique including the following possible styles: Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Broadway and Lyrical dance.
• design concepts and technologies
• class and small group performances at Dance Night
• Australian dance companies and choreographers.
