Course Outline

This course encompasses the practice and theory of visual art. Students have opportunities to develop art making skills, build on existing analytical skills and engage in the making of resolved artworks.

Art making tasks will include drawing, designing, taking references from artists, media testing within a visual diary and resolving ideas through an artwork each semester.

Art interpretation tasks will include analysing artworks, applying art language, exploring art movements/art history and influence of artists on students’ own work. Students will produce short analytical answers, extended responses, investigative essays and exams.

The course comprises of two units:

Unit 1 – Differences

The focus of this unit is Differences. In a teacher directed program students consider differences arising from cultural diversity, place, gender, class and historical period in their art making. Mediums studied may include painting, drawing and printmaking.

Unit 2 – Identities

The focus of this unit is Identities. In a teacher directed program students explore concepts or issues related to personal, social or cultural identity in their art making. Mediums studied may include painting, sculpture, and ceramics.

Minimum Entrance Requirements

B Grade in Year 10 Visual Arts.
