Course Outline

Students examine and produce a range of media work in this course, building high-level production and analysis skills, which are the foundations for success in Year 12 ATAR Media Production and Analysis.

Students on this course will have access to a fully functioning, multi-camera television studio. Students use state-of-the-art digital SLR cameras. Video projects are edited using Adobe Creative Suite.

This course comprises of two units:

Unit 1 – A1MPA – Popular Culture
The focus of this unit is popular culture. Students analyse and respond to a range of popular culture media, identifying techniques, purposes and meanings that are created and audience interpretation. Students develop their own ideas and learn production skills to produce media work in the context of popular culture.

Unit 2 – A2MPA – Influence
The focus of this unit is the influence of the media. Students analyse and respond to a range of media work designed to influence audiences. Students develop their own ideas and expand production skills to produce media work in the context of media influence.

Minimum Entrance Requirements

B Grade in Year 10 English.
Past experience in Media Studies is desirable.
