Course Outline
This course enables students to:
- use the scientific method to complete investigations demonstrate knowledge of the workplace health and safety requirements and practices while working safely in the laboratory or the field
- understand that science uses knowledge to solve problems and make informed decisions that impact people and the environment and
- understand relationships within and between living and physical systems
This is done by taking a multidisciplinary approach, including aspects of biology, chemistry, geology and physics, that encourages students to apply what they have learnt in class to real-world situations.
Unit 3 & 4 – Forensic Science
In units 3 and 4, students explore how biological and chemical evidence can be used by forensic investigation officers to identify victims and offenders, and to determine time and cause of death.
Students will develop their science understanding and skills in biology, chemistry, physics and data handling through a variety of practical activities. Students are encouraged to use information and communication technology to gather and interpret data, and to communicate their findings in a variety of ways.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
An interest in science, and an understanding of scientific processes used in Year 11 is helpful for students in Year 12.
