Course Outline

Unit 3 – Popular Culture

Students will focus on:

• practical and theoretical dance lessons – building on choreographic processes & manipulating elements of dance
• building knowledge and understanding of theoretical content for the EST
• genre-specific technique and skills – learning combinations and a group routine in one genre
• producing group choreography incorporating technologies and design concepts that reflect current trends

Unit 4 – Australian Dance

 Students will focus on:

• understanding a range of functions and contexts of dance in Australia
• analysing cultural beliefs and values in relation to traditional and contemporary dance styles
• contextual knowledge – case study of Australian companies and choreographers
• genre-specific technique and skills – learning combinations and a group routine in one genre
• performances at Mindarie Senior College’s annual Arts Night and Dance Showcase

Minimum Entrance Requirements

None – however, previous dance experience or completion of the Year 11 General Dance course is desirable. This course requires consistent, high attendance and is not recommended for students with consistent injuries.

Further Study

Certificate in Dance or Dance Teaching
Pre-professional Training Programs – Youth Ballet WA, Transit Dance or Brent Street Studios.
