Course Outline
Unit 1 – Exploring the components of dance
Students are introduced to:
- practical and theoretical dance lessons
- safe dance practice, elements of dance, choreographic processes and design concepts and technologies
- skills and techniques for different genres of dance
- class dance routines and group choreography
- contextual knowledge – case study investigation and dance language.
Unit 2 – Dance as entertainment
Students are introduced to:
- entertainment potential of dance and choreography
- identifying and selecting technologies and design concepts which enhance the entertainment and context of dance performances
- performance qualities and preparation responsibilities
- performances at Mindarie Senior College’s annual Arts Night and Dance Showcase.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
None – but previous dance experience is desirable. This course requires consistent, high attendance and is not recommended for students with consistent injuries.
