Course Outline
Unit 3 – Australian Dance
Students will focus on:
- exploring the development of dance in Australia, recognising how social, political and artistic factors shape its evolution
- continuing to develop improvisational skills, performance qualities and choreographic processes
- case studies – extending critical analysis/evaluation of dance
- contemporary dance technique and skills
- learning the WACE Set Solo (contemporary)
- written and practical examinations
Unit 4 – Innovation in Dance
Builds on content in Unit 3 – practical tasks and examinations included. Students will focus on:
- exploring development of dance from around the world as well as the creative process of companies, choreographers and dancers
- drawing inspiration from a spectrum of sources to embrace traditions and innovations
- contemporary technique and WACE Set Solo
- creating an original solo composition in an additional genre
- performances at Mindarie Senior College’s annual Arts Night and Dance Showcase
Minimum Entrance Requirements
Successful completion of Year 11 ATAR Dance.
Further Study
Tertiary courses in the Arts, Entertainment, Education, Sports sciences and Allied Health
Certificate in Dance or Dance Teaching
Pre-professional Training Programs – Youth Ballet WA, Transit Dance or Brent Street Studios
