Course Outline
Unit 3 – Food Diversity & Equity
This unit looks at many factors that shape what we eat and how food is shared in our community. Students explore cultural influences on food, current food trends, and issue of fair access to safe and nutritious food. They will learn about food security, technology in food production, and how government and industry make sure food is safe and available.
Students learn about
- Food Diversity
- Biotechnology
- HACCP and Laws in the Food Industry
- Technology process to produce food products for analysis
Unit 4 – Future of Food
Discover how food production and innovation can help feed the world sustainably, now and in the future. Explore global food supply issues, from unequal access to the impact of new technologies. Learn how food choices, marketing and regulations shape what we eat, and investigate how different groups in society are affected.
Students learn about
- Sustainability in Food Industry
- Innovative technologies
- Global Food Supply issues
- Nutrition for specific groups
- Marketing laws
Students will participate in one ‘cooking session’ and one ‘lab session’ each week , with a double theory.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
Succesful completion of Year 11 ATAR Food Science & Technology.
