Mindarie Senior College Library Resource Centre (LRC) aims to cater for the needs of the College community, in particular the Year 11 and 12 students and staff. It encourages lifelong learning and the development of skills that can be applied once students leave the College environment. Students are encouraged to develop positive reading habits by being exposed to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts.
The LRC offers a rapidly growing collection of resources including fiction and non-fiction texts, reference materials, periodicals, vertical file pamphlets, newspapers and charts. Students can access a range of information and communication technologies (ICT) and the Internet via networked computers and wireless laptops. They may also borrow a wide range of ICT hardware such as digital cameras, video cameras, laptops.
Students may access the LRC individually, in small groups or as part of a class. All resources are catalogued on AccessIt. Resources can be searched for on the Search Terminals located in the LRC or on any networked computer throughout the College.
The LRC is staffed by a Teacher Librarian and a Library Officer. The Teacher Librarian plays an active role in supporting teaching and learning at Mindarie Senior College. The Teacher Librarian selects and evaluates relevant resources for both teachers and students and collaborates with teachers on program and lesson implementation to help reinforce students’ research and information processing skills. The Teacher Librarian is also available to support staff and students in the use of ICTs to enhance teaching and learning.
The library staff aim to promote the enjoyment of reading and literature by recommending fiction and non fiction resources to read. Staff and students are welcome to suggest new resources to be considered for inclusion in the collection. If you have any queries, please ask a library staff member for help.
