Course Outline

Geography General Units 1 and 2 are designed to suit the needs of students considering the work force or TAFE at the end of Year 12. These units focus on environments at risk and tourism aspects of particular regions.

The themes are explored in Unit 1 through the context of Western Australia’s coastal and marine environment, the Great Barrier Reef and the Amazon Rainforest. Unit 2 focuses on regions, with the context of Perth and New York City. Students will explore the development of the cities and the tourism aspects that attracts travellers to the regions every year.

The study of these units helps to develop students’ investigation, communication and technology skills in order to come to a balanced judgement on the impacts humans have on the environment.

Skills Outline

This course aims to enable students to develop a variety of skills related to the formulation, investigation and presentation of geographical information, including the ability to:

  • Think critically
  • Conduct research and evaluate information
  • Debate geographical issues
  • Form conclusions and
  • Collect and collate data
