This course is designed for students with a genuine interest in sports coaching. It prepares them for potential employment in the industry and gives students the opportunity to plan and conduct sport and recreation sessions. The course comprises of both theoretical elements and those of a practical nature such as coaching and officiating others.
The practical modules selected will be dependent upon the specific expertise of the teacher, resources and facilities available to the class. They may include coaching primary aged students, golf, cricket, lawn bowls softball, soccer and squash.
Unit content:
3 core and 6 elective units; including First Aid qualifications, working safely in the sport and recreation industry and working in a community coaching role.
The course prepares students for a variety of post-school pathways including immediate employment or certificate pathways at TAFE. It provides students with a range of employment opportunities in the sport, leisure and recreation industries, education, sport development youth work and health fields linked to physical activity. the course also helps to equip students to take on volunteer and leadership roles in community activities.
