Course Outline

The Design (Photography) course engages students in intensive design processes, within a photographic context. Students will learn to investigate solutions to design problems, considering the needs of clients and their prospective audiences. Students are required to document their development of design solutions in an assessed portfolio.

With access to digital SLR cameras, lighting equipment and the full Adobe Creative Suite, students have the opportunity to develop their photographic, editing and presentation skills to a professional level.

 

Unit 1 – Design Fundamentals

The focus of this unit is to introduce the students to the design process, while learning the fundamentals of exposure, image composition and publishing layout. Students will explore their interests in photographic technique while creating a magazine cover using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

 

Unit 2 – Personal Design

The focus of this unit is portrait design where students apply their design skills to photographing human subjects. Students investigate the work of master portrait photographers then apply their knowledge practically to create a profile portrait. During this unit students will gain experience working with flashes and reflectors to create high quality portraits.

Minimum Entrance Requirements

Experience in photography would be advantageous
